Winter Maintenance Tips in Gonzales, LA
Cold weather doesn’t just affect the road conditions, but also your car itself. Even if you’re staying in Louisiana over the winter, there are steps you can take to protect your car’s performance as well as take protective measures against maintenance headaches down the line.
Winter Maintenance Tips
- Tire air pressure — Tires lose about a pound of air pressure per 10 degrees drop in Fahrenheit, which means that your 35 PSI tires from the summer 90 degree weather are at a measly 30 PSI when it drops to 40 degrees (and that’s not considering regular air leakage)
- Battery – Colder weather puts more stress on your car’s battery, so now is a good time to have a load test performed by the service department. Batteries have long lives, but you don’t want to risk being stuck in the cold!
- Underbody – If you’re going somewhere where it’s snowy, chances are they will have used road salt at some point, and there’s still some left on the road. If you have rust or corrosion, make sure you have it treated before heading out as the salt will accelerate the problem. Likewise, when you get home, give your entire vehicle a good wash from top to bottom.
