Vehicles are lasting longer than ever nowadays due to advances in manufacturing, which means more owners are experiencing long-term service issues they may not be familiar with. Here at Price LeBlanc Nissan, we want you to know more about these less common maintenance problems and how to avoid them!
- Spark Plugs: These eventually get gunked up and fail, or simply fail due to age. If your MPG drops sharply or your engine is making an odd noise, these could need replacing.
- Coolant Fluid: Inspecting and topping off coolant is a common maintenance procedure at the dealership, but eventually this fluid will have to be swapped out and the whole system flushed.
- Transfer Case Fluid: In a 4-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicle, the transfer case sends power from the transmission to the axles. This is not something you can check easily, so make sure to have a professional with a vehicle lift take a look.
- Belts: There are several belts than can (and will!) fail at some point in their lives, since they’re just flexible pieces of rubber. There are too many belts to list here, but if you hear a squeaking / rotating noise it is most likely a belt failing. The timing belt is a major concern for all vehicles, and it will start to fail between 60k and 90k miles — make sure to check your vehicle’s manual on this important component.
- Differential Fluid. The differential is a set of gears that lets a single engine rotate multiple wheels. Differential fluid is what lubricates this mechanism, and occasionally needs to be checked and replaced.
